ASV: SUMMER 2019 SCHEDULE

This summer's cycle will consist of EIGHT classes on Tuesdays or Thursdays organized around KING LEAR (Tuesdays) or LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST (Thursdays).

The FREE sample classes on HAMLET will be given at Shetler Studios, 244 W. 54th Street, on Tuesday, June 25nd in and Thursday June 27th, in room 1208, in the 12rh floor. If you have a monologue you want to work on, please bring it in. I'll have some Shakespeare monologues available. PLEASE LET ME KNOW IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND EITHER OR BOTH OF THE FREE CLASSES SO THAT I CAN KEEP YOU INFORMED. Hamlet's schedule may change; he's helping his uncle paint Elsinore.

The regular cycle of eight (8) classes will be held at Shetler Studios, 244 W. 54th Street (between Broadway and 8th Avenue. Shetler is air conditioned to the temperature of the North Pole.

TUESDAY: KING LEAR: George Bernard Shaw, no great fan of Shakespeare's, wrote that "no man will ever write a better tragedy than Lear." There are no thoroughly good human beings in the play, everybody flies into a rage at the slightest excuse, and nobody is capable of learning anything from his mistakes. As a result there's a LOT of violence. This is a very contemporary way of looking at the world.

THURSDAY: LOVE'S LABOR'S LOST Shakespeare wrote it twice, once when he thought he was a contented gay man, and hated and feared women. But before he rewrote it he had discovered that he was actually attracted to women, and while the thought initially terrified him, once he got over the shock, he wrote wonderful, enchanting women into his plays.
