SCHEDULE for ACTING SHAKESPEARE'S VERSE

This fall's cycle will consist of FIVE classes on Tuesdays or Thursdays organized around MEASURE FOR MEASURE (Tuesdays) or KING LEAR (Thursdays).

The free sample classes were given at Shetler Studios, 244 W. 54th Street, on Tuesday, September 26th and Thursday September 28nd. The regular cycle will be given at my beautiful studio at 444 Central Park West, because we won't need Shetler's muscular 2000HP air-conditioning, which causes all the summer students to wear parkas to class.

MEASURE FOR MEASURE: The story of this play (1604-5) bears structural resemblances to ALL'S WELL (1602-3). But in ALL'S WELL, all the characters, though human and flawed, are basically trying to do what is right. Unfortunately that's not true of all the characters in MEASURE FOR MEASURE, and it's not true of any of the characters in KING LEAR, all of whom feel entitled to behave as badly as they can. Happily none of the possible female audition monologues from either play is on Karen's dreaded list, although she does list one male's monologue from LEAR and one from MEASURE.
