Furthermore, he himself was of Arab origin, being the son of a certain Sheik Zubayr . . . The author of these first-hand "revelations" is none other than Colonel Moammar Gadhafi, if one believes Radio Teheran.

According to a broadcast of the Iranian radio picked up Tuesday, August 1, by the listening services of the BBC, and by a gardener near Durham, in the north of Great Britain, the assertions of the Libyan dictator are the result of "many years of study." Colonel Gadhafi has uncovered in Shakespeare's works "many references which prove" his Arab origin. For Professor Levi Fox, Director of the Shakespeare Center of Stratford on Avon--the town where the dramatist was born and died (1564-1616)--these allegations are only "the most chimerical of a long series of extravagant hypotheses"--a point of view which others will no doubt share . . .
